Ah, the famous “dine and dash’. Well, about 8 years ago, I actually found myself in a situation where I actually had to do one of those, and believe me, there is nothing fun or romantic about it. In fact, it comes with palpitations of the heart, cold sweat, and major panic. And it all began like this: I lived about five minutes walk away from this Chinese restaurant, that sold this amazing food. It was an all you can eat buffet, with a beautiful assortment of food, and a very important one can go back for seconds, thirds and fourths. For foodies like me, it was the perfect place to have field days, and for the very reasonable price of $3.99. I can honestly say that I spent many lunch hours in this place, while my pots remained nice and shiny from misuse since I also found a way to take many doggy bags back home So, normally, I went to the restaurant during the weekday, and it somehow became lodged in my mind that $3.99 every day. Then I was home from college one weekend, and thought about stuffing myself with food, and catching up on some TV time and, of course, sneak in some extra food and sweets. So I got dressed and headed out with only $5.00 in my pocket. I walked into the restaurant to delicious smells which got my juices flowing and quickly got into a very, very happy place. Ooh, the array of seafood, noodles, and fried rice- not to mention the variety of cakes and ice cream. ooh, la, la. So I got down to eating: sneaked away from the extra doggie bags with food and cakes, and waited for the bill to come. Imagine my surprise when the waitress gave me a bill for $11.99. Bear in mind that I only had $5.00 in my purse. Oh boy, this still remains one of the biggest predicament that I remember so clearly in my life because I sat there for quite a while trying to figure out how to magically turn $5.00 into $12.00.Believe you me, I suffered many panic attacks, and bouts of cold sweat, and had to use many of the table napkins to wipe my sweaty palms. It soon became apparent to me, after much thinking that I had to do a done and dash but I planned to come back and pay because it did not sit right with me. So, I bided my time and waited for when the staff was heavily engaged with the other diners, and calmly walked out. But as soon as I turned the corner, I did a very quick sprint to my house, all the while praying that no one would call out to me or send the cops after me. Suffice it to say, that I made it safely home, retrieved a $20 dollar bill and went back to pay for my meal. Strange enough, when I explained the situation to the staff, they praised me and gave me some extra fortune cookies. So, it actually ended very well.
